Civic, sporting and community buildings that serve the public with dignity, accessibility and purpose.
This contemporary funeral home sits comfortably in its Irish provincial town surroundings, nestled between a small Garda Station and a house, two hundred yards from the market town's Main Street. Its crisp façade, with white walls, zinc box entrance and raised box at the ridge is in stark contrast with the 1950s bungalow it used to be. When approached by our client to convert the bungalow into a funeral home, we took the approach of radical modification, to create a space, filled with light, which would encourage celebration of life rather than mourning of death. Inside, the white walls and vaulted ceiling, highlighted by one continuous skylight, creates a soothing ambiance, offering grieving families healing energy.

We were commissioned to form an entrance to Dun an Ri Forest Park that made the entry point more visible to motorists approaching on the Carrickmacross Road. The scale and height of the entrance allows for high forestry maintenance vehicles to enter with ease, while the structure nestles into the backdrop of tall trees in the background.
