The site enjoys panoramic views across Graddum Lough with the Cavan landscape as the backdrop. The brief was to renovate and extend the existing cottage, including raising the roof to utilise the attic space for two new bedrooms. The 'existing' cottage would contain the bedrooms and the extension would contain a flat roof section with entrance link, bathroom, ensuite, utility and storage and a pitched roofed block containing the living quarters. The new South facing extension would enjoy lots of glazing capturing the views and maximising solar gain. The building design is based on the original vernacular 'cluster' of building, synonymous with buildings in the Irish landscape.
